Day to Day Itinerary
DAY 1 – Paro: The trip begins with a 90 minute flight from Kathmandu to air only international airport at the city of Paro. The gateway to the mountain kingdom, it flies giving you an incredible view of the backbone of the Himalayas, including Mt. Everest. On the first day in Paro, you will tour the city, visit the National Museum and explore the Paro Valley as you head for your hotel.
DAY 2 – Thimphu: Following a delicious breakfast, travel to Drukghel Dzong, the ruins of the fortress where Bhutan repelled invaders from Tibet in the 1600s. There will be additional tours of the city before our departure to the capital city of Thimphu. Along the way, visit the 7th Century Kyichu Lhakhang, one of 108 temples built in the Himalayas by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gembo. This is one of the most sacred shrines in Bhutan where Buddhism was first introduced into the country. Upon arrival, we will tour the capital city and see its many sites.
DAY 3 – Thimphu/Paro: After breakfast, we will tour the city, including the National Library which houses in incredible collection of sacred scrolls relating to Buddhism.. The Textile and Folk Heritage Museum will give you insight into the unique culture of Bhutan. Following lunch, it is a visit to Trashichhoedzong or "Fortress of the Glorious Dharma", the center of government for the country. Here is the king's throne as well as the seat of the Je Khenpo or Chief Abbot. The structure dates back to 1641. After Trashichhoedzong, visit the King's Memorial Chhorten before finally driving to Paro.
DAY 4 – Departure: It's time to leave this Shangri-La as you head for the airport after breakfast. This is a good time to discuss with your representative at our travels about other places to see and do in South Asia.
