Everest Base Camp Trekking Overview

Ask anyone what they know about Nepal, and the one answer they usually will have is that it is the home of the world's highest mountain. That answer is true, as Mt. Everest pierces the bright blue Himalayan skies at 8,848 m (29,029 ft). The most popular route to Mt. Everest is to follow the footsteps of Sir Edmund Hillary who was the first man to conquer the mountain. The trek takes you into the heart of Sherpa country until you reach your destination. Everest Base Camp trekking where the mountain climbers called home on their historic journey to the top. A journey to Mt. Everest is more than just a trip to base camp. It is a journey of a lifetime as you pass through rhododendron forests, sit and talk to children in mountain villages and visit ancient Buddhist monasteries. The sights will dazzle you as you see not only Mt. Everest, but also some of the other highest peaks in the world that surround the crown jewel of mountains. Day to Day Itinerary

DAY 1 – Arrival : Upon arrival, meet assist and transfer to Hotel. After refreshment start sightseeing covering Kathmandu City &Swayabhunath.

DAY 2 – Kathmandu to Lukwa to Phakding (elev. 2610 m/8,563 ft.) : The flight to Lukwa from Kathmandu is 35 short minutes. Lukwa is the traditional beginning point of the trek into the Everest region. The trail is up and down as you trek along the side of the Dudh Koshi River to the village of Phakding. Trekking time is 2 -3 hours.

DAY 3 – Phakding to Namche Bazaar (elev. 3,440 m/11,286 ft.) : The trail continues north to the principal city of Namche Bazaar. A district city, it really is more of a village with its stone streets with stepsThere are great restaurants here as well as good shopping opportunities. Trekking time to Namche Bazaar is 6 – 7 hours.

DAY 4 – Acclimatization : We will spend a day resting here in order to acclimatize to the higher elevation. There is plenty to do in Namche Bazaar as you explore the city. Mt. Everest is in the background as well as other snowcapped peaks of the Himalayas.

DAY 5 – Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (elev. 3860 m/12,644 ft.) : We resume the trek toward Everest Base Camp. We leave the Dudh Koshi River as the trail turns toward the northeast. There are wonderful views of the mountains along the way. Trekking time is 6 – 7 hours.

DAY 6 – Tengboche to Dingboche (elev. 4410 m/14,468 ft.) : The trail continues to gain in elevation as we move toward the village of Dingboche. The trail passes through several small villages as the vegetation becomes less and less due to the higher altitudes. Trekking time is 6 – 7 hours.

DAY 7 – Dingboche to Lobuche (elev. 4,910 m/16,108 ft.) : The trail turns northward again as our next destination is the village of Lobuche. There are rocky crags, and mountain passes we go through to get to this village. Trekking time is 5 – 6 hours.

DAY 8 – Lobuche to Gorak Shep (elev. 5,140 m/16,863 ft.) : We climb some more as we move upwards toward Gorak Shep. This is the last village before Everest Base Camp. We will take it easy today as we are at very high altitudes. Trekking time is 4 – 5 hours.

DAY 9 – Gorak Shep to Mt. Kala Patthar (elev. 5,550 m/18,208 ft.) : and then Everest Base Camp (elev. 5,364 m/17,598 ft.). Today we make our destination, but first we climb to the top of Mt. Kala Patthar for a superb view of Mt. Everest and the Himalayan Range. From here, we will have the best view of Mt. Everest.  We leave early in the morning for the climb up Mt. Kala Patthar to catch the morning sunrise over Mt. Everest. Mt. Kala Patthar is a trekking mountain, so no special equipment is needed to make it to its summit. Following our climb upwards, we will trek to Everest Base Camp. The Base Camp has no view of Mt. Everest, and there is no place to stay there unless you are camping. We will return to Gorak Shep for the night. Trekking time is 6 – 7 hours.

DAY 10 – Gorak Shep to Lobuche (elev. 5,140 m/16,863 ft.) : We begin our return trip today. We will trek back to Lobuche. Trekking time is 3 -4 hours.

DAY 11 – Lobuche to Pheriche (elev. 4,240 m/13,910 ft.) : The trek returns on a different trail, thereby we see some different scenery. Pheriche is a pleasant village. Trekking time is 6 – 7 hours.

DAY 12 – Pheriche to Tengboche (elev. 3860 m/12,664 ft.) : We continue down the trail back to the village of Tengboche, famous for its Buddhist monastery. Trekking time 5 – 6 hours.

DAY 13 – Tengboche to Namche Bazaar (elev. 3,440 m/11,286 ft.) : We come back to the main city of the district, Namche Bazaar. Here we can get a hot shower, eat some good food, and get a good night's sleep in a better hotel with a really comfortable bed. There is internet connection here in Namche Bazaar. Trekking time 5 - 6 hours.

DAY 14 – Namche Bazaar to Lukwa (elev. 2,840 m/9,317 ft.) : We reach our destination, the gateway village of Lukwa where we will spend the night. This is our last day of trekking as we fly tomorrow to Kathmandu. Trekking time is 5 – 6 hours.

DAY 15 – Fly to Kathmandu : You did it ! You made the trip to Everest Base Camp and have seen several of the highest peaks in the world ! It will be a fast trip after breakfast (35 minutes) back to Kathmandu. 

DAY 16 – Departure : Breakfast at hotel . Last minute shoping in Thamel . Drive to airport for your onward flight  and wish you safe journey back home.
